To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Gossip Girl gracing our screens, Vanity Fair has interviewed the cast to uncover secrets from behind the scenes, and the latest revelation has left us in disbelief.
According to executive producer Joshua Safran, “Blake and Leighton were not friends.” He explained, “They were friendly, but they were not friends like Serena and Blair. Yet the second they’d be on set together, it’s as if they were.”
The idea that Blake Lively and Leighton Meester didn’t quite Һit it off on the Gossip Girl set feels almost as jarring as suggesting Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf weren’t destined soul mates.
Thankfully, amidst this revelation, there is solace in knowing that at least one on-screen romance was genuine. Ed Westwick (who portrayed Bass) and Chace Crawford (who played Nate Archibald) were indeed the closest of friends on and off-screen, even sharing a living space at one point.
Crawford reminisced about how their bond began at an Arctic Monkeys concert, where they were approached by fans expressing their love for the Gossip Girl books.
In the midst of it all, this genuine bromance remains something to hold onto.
