While Lipa has often donned outfits reminiscent of Cher’s most memorable style moments, she seems to be shifting her inspiration to another pop star—Britney Spears. Recently, Lipa shared photos of herself wearing a denim мɑxi dress, a nod to Spears’ famous appearance at the 2001 American Music Awards in a similar upcycled denim dress.

Lipa’s version of the dress is from the Blumarine spring 2023 collection. Creative Director Nicola Brognano, known for his mastery of Y2K fashion, showcased two variations of the dress on the runway, and Lipa opted for the lighter wash. The dress features a studded bustier top that extends down the body-hugging skirt, creating a slight train behind her. A large belt with a gothic Blumarine “B” buckle adorns her waist, and Lipa accessorized with a diamond cross necklace from the same runway collection.

While Spears had Justin Timberlake by her side in a denim suit when she debuted her denim dress at the AMAs, Lipa confidently rocked the look solo, commanding attention all to herself.

Lipa shared the dress photos to commemorate her 93rd show on the Future Nostalgia tour. Throughout the year, she’s traveled the globe, performing in custom Balenciaga and Mugler catsuits while showcasing runway looks in her downtime. Wednesday’s show marked her final performance before heading to Albania for a special stop to celebrate the country’s Independence Day.
