Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s upcoming romance film, “It Ends With Us,” faces yet another delay, now scheduled for release on August 9th. Initially slated for February 9th, 2024, the film’s release was postponed to June 21st, 2024, and now to its current date, as reported by Deadline. This news follows recent filming activities in New Jersey, where Lively and Baldoni continued to shoot additional scenes for the movie.
If the release date holds, “It Ends With Us” will premiere amidst a busy weekend, alongside four other wide-release debuts.
Neon will unveil its thriller “Cuckoo,” MGM will present “The Fire Inside,” Lionsgate will release the video game adaptation “Borderlands,” and Warner Bros. will showcase “Trap” starring Josh Hartnett.
Baldoni acquired the rights to the novel in 2019 through his production company, Wayfarer Entertainment, with plans to co-write and star alongside Lively. The film centers on Lily (Lively), who finds herself entangled in a complex relationship with Ryle (Baldoni) after a traumatic incident resurfaces memories of her past with Atlas (Brandon Sklenar).
Filming initially commenced in May 2023 but faced interruptions due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. Production resumed in New Jersey in January 2024, although the remaining filming schedule remаins unclear. The cast also includes Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton, Alex Neustaedter, and Isabella Ferrer, who portray the younger versions of Atlas and Lily.
Colleen Hoover, the author of the 2016 novel on which the film is based, has described “It Ends With Us” as her most challenging book, drawing from her parents’ relationship.
The novel gained widespread popularity, selling over 1 million copies worldwide and being translated into over 20 languages. It experienced a resurgence in late 2021, propelled by TikTоk’s #BookTok community, and remained a bestseller, maintaining a spot on the New York Times Best Seller List for over 90 weeks.
