Virgil van Dijk, a defender for Liverpool, shared his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp’s declaration that the coach will be leaving the team this summer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

This week, Klopp announced that he will step down as manager of Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. Before releasing a statement to the public, the German manager told his players of his decision, and Van Dijk has acknowledged that it was hard to hear.

VAN DIJK’S COMMENTS ABOUT KLOPP

“It’s a hard one to take, because the manager means so much for us, to me, to the club, to the whole Premier League I think,” Van Dijk stated. “However, he made the choice for his family and himself. That was always going to be difficult, and it really was.”

“Yeah, he told us in private of course, and we were all together,” he continued. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a difficult one to accept, but our attitude is business-oriented. We still have a lot of goals to accomplish this year, so why not cap off the season with a bang and throw a boss party as well?”

Following nearly nine years in leadership, Klopp is set to depart from the Anfield club. The former Borussia Dortmund manager led the team to victories in England’s League Cup, FA Cup, and Premier League. Additionally, his squad advanced to three Champions League finals and emerged victorious once.

This season, Klopp will try to guide Liverpool to a second Premier League crown. With a game remaining, the Merseyside squad leads the table by five points over the defending champions, Manchester City.
