Klopp Applauds Elliott and Quansah for Stellar Performances in Liverpool’s Draw Against West Ham

Jurgen Klopp highlighted two players who performed admirably in Liverpool’s draw against West Ham United, according to Liverpoolworld. After a 0-2 loss to Everton in the Merseyside derby, Klopp made several changes to the starting lineup, removing key players like Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, and Ibrahima Konate.

Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah were among those given a chance to play, and Klopp commended the young duo for their efforts. The 21-year-olds were praised by the Liverpool manager, who said they did “really well” despite the team’s missed opportunities. Klopp explained his approach:

“What I said, four games in 10 days. If you can find a coach who can lead a team for four games, then that person belongs to the next generation, not me anymore.”

“I tried to do what I thought was right, and I think the players on the field did a great job. Cody Gakpo didn’t start the last match because of his personal issues. Harvey Elliott played very well.”

“Jarell Quansah did brilliantly. As a centre-back, you’re always involved when goals are conceded, but he played a really good game and was extremely important for us. I tried to do the right thing with the squad.”

Quansah’s performance was generally strong, showing some aerial wins and good coverage moments, including one instance where he overpowered West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta. However, he also lost track of Michail Antonio on a cross that led to a goal.

On the other hand, Harvey Elliott started ahead of Salah on the right but struggled to make a significant impact. He had a few decent off-the-ball runs that weren’t capitalized on, and his one chance at goal resulted in a strike into the side netting. Later in the match, when he moved into midfield, he struck the crossbar with a powerful shot but remained somewhat passive overall. Despite this, Klopp’s comments suggest that he sees potential in Elliott and Quansah, acknowledging their effort and contributions to the game.
