Dua Lipa performed an ᴜnexpected duet with Chris Stapleton at the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards held at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, TX, on Thursday.
The 28-year-old pop star shared that it was her idea to collaborate with the 46-year-old country singer, and together they performed his 2023 song “Think I’m in Love with You” in the 12K-seat stadium.
“Perhaps we needed time to listen to our hearts,” Dua sang.
“And there you are. We’ve come so far together. You are the power over me. You are the light I wanna see.”
According to a source who spoke to Billboard on Thursday, the duo plans to release the collaboration this Friday.
Lipa showcased her slim 5ft8in figure in a navy-blue fishnet-style dress with a halter neckline and matching pumps, styled by Jahleel Weaver.
The three-time Grammy winner wore her burgundy hair in a middle-parted updo and sported a fully-contoured complexion for the event.
After their performance, Dua gave Chris a big hug as the audience erupted in applause.
Despite seeming like an unlikely pairing, the two artists excitedly chatted backstage.
“We really got together, like, two days ago to rehearse for this, but we’ve been talking about this for a little while,” the British-Albanian singer told ACM Awards correspondent Bobby Bones.
“It was my idea! I’m such a fan of Chris, and I kind of just reached out and was like, ‘Hey, you want to do something together?’ And this came about.”
Dua added, “I feel so lucky to have been in Chris and [his wife] Morgane’s orbit for a few days. Just diving into the musicality of everything has been wonderful.”
Stapleton, the 10-time Grammy winner from a family of coal miners, dubbed Lipa “the queen of feel-good music.”
