Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius marries DAZN presenter in spectacular and star-studded wedding

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius married Italian DAZN television presenter Diletta Leotta this weekend, tying the knot on a tiny island off the coast of Sicily.

Karius donned a white tuxedo while over 160 guests were said to have attended the weekend festivities – with a number of famous faces in attendance. They included TV host Michelle Hunziker, actress Elisabetta Canalis, daughter of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Eleonora Berlusconi, and singer Elodie.

Karius made 29 league appearances for Liverpool, including 49 in total while being the first-choice goalkeeper towards the back end of the 2017/18 season. Most notably, Karius will be remembered by Liverpool fans for his huge blunders in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

previewThe goalkeeper first threw the ball towards his defender without noticing how close Karim Benzema was to him. Benzema was able to stretch out his leg and see the ball ricochet into the back of the net to open the scoring.

And after the Reds equalized, Karius dropped a long-range shot from Gareth Bale into his own net, before Madrid went on to win the game 3-1. Both these were later attributed to Karius suffering a concussion in the game after receiving a blow to the head.

Karius remained at the club for four more years, but never played another game with Liverpool after spending two years on loan with Besiktas and one with Union Berlin before leaving in 2022.

previewKarius’ mistakes were what led Liverpool to prioritize signing a goalkeeper in the following window, eventually landing Alisson Becker – perhaps the greatest in the sport today while winning every major trophy with the Reds.

The German goalkeeper, now 31, is unlikely to be given another opportunity in the Premier League, while being the third-choice keeper at Newcastle after being signed in 2022 when the team had suffered an injury crisis. Before signing with Newcastle, Karius had struggled to find a club after being released from Liverpool.

previewKarius will now hope to not suffer the same fate as former Manchester United stopper David de Gea, who somewhat shockingly went the whole season without being signed.
