Real Madrid’s midfield dynamo, Eduardo Camavinga, is facing a potential absence from the UEFA Super Cup match on Wednesday after sustaining a knee injury during training. The 21-year-old French international injured his knee while participating in a small-sided session at the National Stadium in Warsaw, ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Atalanta, the Europa League winners.
Video footage circulating on social media captured Camavinga slipping and landing awkwardly while trying to dribble past his France team-mate, Aurelien Tchouameni.
The scene showed Camavinga in visible distress, clutching his left knee and being comforted by his teammates. Medical staff attended to him on the pitch, and although he walked off without assistance, concerns remain about the nature of the injury.
Initial examinations have ruled out a cruciate ligament injury, but further tests scheduled for Wednesday morning will determine if there is internal ligament damage.
Camavinga’s absence would be a significant blow for Real Madrid, given his instrumental role in the team’s recent successes, including two Champions League titles, two La Liga championships, and a FIFA Club World Cup since his signing in 2021. In the 2023-24 season alone, he made 31 appearances as Real Madrid secured their 36th La Liga title.
