NBA legend and superstar LeBron James is currently visiting Saudi Arabia, where he engaged in basketball training sessions with local players. The LA Lakers star, a four-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time leading scorer, is spending three days in the Kingdom.
James’ visit follows recent speculation about a potential high-value contract offer from Saudi Arabia. Reports suggest that the iconic basketball player might be considering a $1 billion, two-year deal to play for Al Hilal, a prominent club in the Saudi Pro League.
During his stay in Riyadh, James attended a training session at the Al Azam Academy, organized by the Saudi Basketball Federation. There, he participated in drills with both the Saudi junior basketball team and the women’s first team.
Dr. Ghassan Tashkundi, President of the Saudi Basketball Federation, expressed his excitement about James’ visit, saying, “We are honored to welcome LeBron James to Saudi Arabia. It was a joy to see the players’ reactions and their smiles when they met him. His passion during the training sessions and his dedication to inspiring the next generation of athletes in our Kingdom is greatly appreciated.”
LeBron James, who began his NBA career 20 years ago, has an illustrious career including four league championships, four MVP awards, two Olympic gold medals, and 13 All-Star selections.
Tashkundi continued, “LeBron’s impact extends beyond sports. His visit and interaction with the players have created lasting memories and fulfilled their dreams. His presence is crucial in inspiring and unifying the new generation of athletes in Saudi Arabia.”
Saudi Arabia is experiencing a significant boost in sports engagement, with a 50% increase in sporting associations over the past four years and adult sports participation rising to 48% from just 13% in 2015.
