Kylian Mbappe joined the club as a free agent and was placed on a higher wage

According to sources in Spain, Jude Bellingham has received a substantial compensation increase at Real Madrid to bring his annual salary up to par with Kylian Mbappe.

After leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, Mbappe joined the club as a free agent. With a base salary of €15 million (£12.6 million), he earned more than Bellingham and Vinicius Junior combined.

Even with a sizeable bonus that increased his yearly income, Mbappe’s base pay is still the highest of any player at Real Madrid; only Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Eden Hazard earn more than him.

However, Bellingham and Vinicius, who made an incredible €10 million (£8.4 million) a season, were at the top of Madrid’s pay scale before to the striker’s arrival.

But OK Diario has stated that the €5 million (£4.2 million) compensation differential in Mbappe’s favor may have unnerved them, prompting the club to act.

‘Jude quickly elevated himself into one of the world’s great players,’ Owen said.

‘Playing for a club like Real Madrid isn’t easy when all eyes are on you and every poor performance is pounced upon; if you can respond to that and stay at the highest level, then you belong with the best in the world. He’s incredible.

‘At Real, he has developed that big-game energy, that swagger, that attitude.’
